Set SMART goals

The main reason most people drop goals, including New Year's resolutions, is that they have not defined their goals sufficiently for them to stick. A SMART goal needs to be Specific, Measureable, Achievable (or acceptable), Realistic (or reasonable) and has a timescale. For example, "I'm going to recycle all my plastic bottles, cans, and magazines" is a much more achievable goal than "I'm going to do more for the environment" and that makes it easier to stick with. Many people describe themselves as good at starting things though they are less skilled at follow through. Goal setting is a core skill that helps the more successful business people to keep up momentum when delivering initiatives.
